Friday Virtue: Just know

It’s Friday, and what better day to reflect on a good quote before the weekend.

“Just know what is happening in your mind – not happy or sad about it, not attached. If you suffer, see it, know it, and be empty. It’s like a letter – you have to open it before you can know what’s in it.”

– Ajahn Chah

You know you’ve read a good saying when it stops you in your tracks for a moment. This one put a little smile on my face and I think I may have almost, possibly, perhaps, had a little bit of mindfulness for a brief second (it was nice!). I always thought “open your mind” referred to letting in other ideas without judgment. Listening to the opinions of new age hippies and really thinking about them! But thinking about opening my mind like an old-fashioned letter (did somebody say ‘letter’?), in order to know what’s inside, gives me such a fresh perspective. Open up, look inside, know what’s in there. Don’t forget to reply.

Happy Friday all, have a nice weekend.
