Friday Virtue #15: What keeps you upright?

“A man should be upright, not be kept upright.” – Marcus Aurelius

I once heard a talk about the Universal law and how we are punished immediately once we break it. Anger, for example, harms the angry one most of all. Also, we feel guilt, remorse, and all sorts of emotions to let us know that our actions don’t go unnoticed. Whatever we do, and whatever we think, there is an effect. These effects shape us into the people we are. And the by the universal law, it’s decided whether we are liberated or punished for what we’ve done. There’s no hiding from it.

And therefore, as Marcus has said, we should be keeping a good eye on ourselves and contemplating our actions.

I haven’t posted anything for a couple of weeks. I’ve made a big decision and quit drinking (I was drinking too much). I feel so much better lately and I’ve even been spending less time in my head. A kind of fog has lifted and I’m starting to feel…well, I feel a lot more self-respect, I guess. Let’s just say there is definitely a universal law somewhere that states I shouldn’t be drinking!

Happy Friday all, have a good weekend!
